Can you help? Please title your comments with the particular concern, e.g. Hulme Ferry Bridge

Comments

  1. Went to see if the ferry was running between 1-30 and 4-pnm on Sunday 16th October 2011. I asked a man who was fixing a lock on the gate if the fery was running. I understood him to say that he was from Peel Holdings but that the ferry was not running.

  2. used the ferry last weekend crossing from Irlam to Flixton.

On the Irlam side the access is really difficult to find, as it is not signposted, and also the footpath is badly overgrown. The chap running the ferry has been instructed to record the amount of people using the ferry, if the numbers are low I am sure Peel Holdings will use it as a way of being able to close the ferry.

I intended to contact a walking group in Irlam to ask them to include the ferry in one of their walks.

Would it be possible for your group to do the same. Once across the canal it is only a matter of a couple of minutes walk into Boysnope golf course which has a really lovely clubhouse which is open the public and does really nice food at inexpensive prices.

It would be nice to combine a nice walk that also helped to keep this piece of history alive.

I am emailing from work at present but my home e-mail is mwrixton@googlemail.com.

If you need any more information please contact me.

    Regards

    Mark Wilson.

  3. I regret to inform you, that the Ferryman, my Grandfather, John McDermott passed away in the Summer of 2009, the reason you can't use the Ferry at the moment is because to my knowledge they haven't replaced him, nor did they treat him paticularly well in his final years. (He was still active at the time of his passing.) Hope that sheds a little light on the situation. I lived with him there for years and it's a shame to see the state it's fallen into.

  4. There is no access accross the MSC at the hulme bridge ferry any more. I thought there was a "right of way" from back in the victorian age. This is disgusting. Peel holdings should keep this acees going by law!!!

Hulme Bridge Ferry

RTG is concerned about a footpath that
is the access, on the Trafford side of the Manchester ship canal, to the Hulme Bridge Ferry jetty. The ferry jetty is close to the Davyhulme Millenium Nature Reserve and there is a public footpath from Daresbury Avenue to the ferry jetty.

Have you used this ferry in the past?

Did you use the old bridge the ferry replaced when the Manchester Ship canal was built?

If you used the ferry or before that the Hulme Bridge, and would be willing to talk to a member of the Footpath Team about it, please contact the Footpath Secretary, June Mabon, on telephone:
0161 928 3437 or email: june@hilltopltd.org.uk.
